Three whitewashed cottages stand sentry, alone except for the seagulls bobbing in the deep green shallows under moody skies. Ulyana Hammond creates a compelling sense of distance and depth through artful use of colour, contrast, raised image and shadow. Polyurethane framed and glazed print with white mount. Ulyana Hammond was born in 1981 in St Petersburg, one of the most beautiful cities in Russia, known for its outstanding architecture. These wonderful surroundings were a great source of inspiration to her as she grew up to appreciate the historical riches around her. While studying traditional art and sculpture at university, Ulyana spent many hours sketching and perfecting her art, discovering this rewarding outlet for her passion of painting contrasting shape and colours. Returning to St Peterburg to see family, the trip brought all her childhood memories flooding back. This beautiful city continues to influence her work. Have you thought about hooks and fittings?
I love this piece for its understated elegance and versatility; the grey tones make it a perfect fit for a wide range of interiors, from modern minimalist spaces to cosy, more traditional rooms. The size and clean framing make it a focal point without overwhelming the wall, and it works particularly well above a console or fireplace, or as part of a gallery wall. For practical styling, consider pairing it with neutral fabrics or textured accessories to enhance its calming effect, and keep lighting in mind-placing it where it can be appreciated in natural daylight or soft ambient lighting will really let the colours and subtle details shine. Overall, it's a versatile, stylish addition that adds a sophisticated touch to any room.
