I’m a big fan of these dark grey aluminium chairs for their clean lines and stackable convenience - they’re perfect if you need extra seating without the bulk. The muted tone and slim frame suit contemporary, industrial or even coastal-inspired dining areas. To keep things inviting, layer on a seat pad or textured cushion in a contrasting shade, and pair them with a warm-toned timber table or a concrete-effect top. Outdoors they’ll coordinate nicely with slate or porcelain paving; inside, pop in a few potted plants and a woven rug to soften the look and add a touch of natural warmth.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
