I’m a fan of the Covington bench for its solid oak frame and generous 2 metre span - it instantly brings warmth and character without feeling bulky. It suits farmhouse-inspired kitchens or lean, pared-back dining rooms, and can even double as a hallway seat or display plinth in a rustic-contemporary hallway. To style it, layer on a couple of textured cushions or a folded wool throw at one end, and at the other place a low-profile basket or tray for magazines and greenery. Keep the surrounding palette neutral to let the wood grain remain the focal point.

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour.
