Dressing Tables

A dressing table is a space for daily rituals. Whether it's where you prepare for the day, unwind in the evening, or simply take a quiet moment of self-care, having a dedicated place to sit and organise yourself can feel both calming and indulgent. From arranging skincare and perfumes to choosing jewellery or simply resting with a cup of tea, the right dressing table creates a sense of pause in a busy day and brings a touch of luxury to the bedroom.

The beauty of dressing tables lies in their variety. Some are simple vanity units with clean surfaces - ideal for those who prefer a minimalist look - while others feature drawers and shelves for extra storage and organisation. White and high-gloss designs brighten a room, while black, walnut or oak bring depth. Modern variations (such as console dressing tables) with glass tops or slim floating consoles suit contemporary interiors, while antique or vintage pieces, sometimes with carved detail or rattan touches, provide character and warmth. An art deco or gold dressing table can offer something more decorative with extra glamour. For a child or teenager, a smaller kids dressing table in pink or playful colours with a lightweight stool can make them feel special. Adults often choose materials to match their broader décor, whether that's a high-gloss modern finish, warm pine or oak, or a French-inspired design that softens the look with curves and vintage detailing.

Mirrors remain a popular companion but are not always part of the table itself. A large round or rectangular mirror can reflect natural light and make the room feel more spacious, while Hollywood-style designs with LED bulbs are perfect for detailed makeup application. Some people prefer to mount a mirror on the wall above the table, while others enjoy the flexibility of a freestanding design. Whatever the choice, a well-placed mirror enhances the atmosphere of the dressing space.

Different layouts make the most of available space. A corner dressing table neatly fills unused areas, and slimline floating styles suit compact homes. Larger rooms can accommodate wide dressing tables with multiple drawers and shelves, which can double as a central feature alongside wardrobes and other storage. Seating also plays a role in shaping the experience. A compact stool that tucks neatly under the table is practical in a smaller bedroom, while an upholstered chair adds comfort and presence.

What types of dressing tables are best for small bedrooms?

Floating or corner dressing tables are ideal, especially in lighter finishes like white or cream that keep the space feeling open. Even compact designs can feel indulgent with a mirror or good lighting.

Do all dressing tables come with a mirror or stool?

No - and that's often a plus. Choosing your own mirror or seat lets you set the mood, whether that's a Hollywood-style mirror for glamour or an upholstered chair for comfort.

Which materials are most popular?

Wood finishes like walnut or oak bring warmth, while high-gloss dressing tables or glass surfaces suit modern interiors. Each sets a distinct mood, from rustic to sleek.

Are dressing tables suitable for children?

Yes - kids' dressing tables in playful colours or compact sizes make a fun and practical addition, offering them a special place of their own.

How can a dressing table be styled?

Personal touches make it yours: vintage accents, rattan details, or a statement art deco dressing table can set the tone. Add good lighting and a favourite perfume or vase to complete the look.
