First released in 1961, the MODEL 597 by Italian virtuoso Gianfranco Frattini is the lamp that established him as a lighting designer. Its distinctive and playful form perfectly embodies Frattini's remarkable approach to the aesthetics of light. The lamp's signature nylon fringes draw inspiration from both the world of fashion and the fringed entrance curtains commonly seen in Italian bars and grocery stores in the late 1950s. Thanks to its array of lateral bulbs, MODEL 597 casts a 360º play of indirect light, softened by the fringes to create a rich ambient glow, while the reflective aluminium cover enhances the uplight's warmth. Light-hearted in expression yet serious in function, MODEL 597 brings sophistication, charm, and character to interiors without relying on unnecessary decorative flourishes. The table lamp has a toggle switch on the cable, to switch it on and off.
I love this table lamp because of its minimal yet textured design, which can bring subtle sophistication to various interiors. It works particularly well in contemporary or Scandinavian-inspired spaces, where clean lines and neutral tones are key, but it can also add an interesting contrast in more eclectic settings. For styling, consider placing it on a sideboard or bedside table to create a cosy glow, or pair it with other textured materials like woven baskets or soft textiles for a layered look. Keep the surrounding decor simple to let the lamp's unique texture stand out, and opt for warm bulbs if you want a more inviting, ambient light.
