Memphis is the great cultural phenomenon of the '80s that has revolutionised the creative and commercial logic of the design world. Created on the initiative of Ettore Sottsass and a group of young Milanese architects and designers, shortly to be joined by some of the most famous names on the internatinal design scene, Memphis overturned all the existing preconceptions around the idea of "iving". With Ettore Sottsass as the backbone of the group, Memphis abolished the creative limits previously dictated by the industry, and Design assumed a new expressivity in the form of new shapes, materials and patterns. Thus, the Memphis movement has become an almost mythical symbol of "New Design" and its influence is still strong in many areas of production and beyond.
I love this kids' lamp for its playful yet modern take on lighting design. Its vibrant colours and whimsical shape make it a fun statement piece in a kids' room or a creative corner of a contemporary space. The bright, multicoloured bulbs add a pop of colour and encourage a sense of playfulness while still offering practical illumination. It works particularly well in interiors that embrace colour, patterns, and eclectic styles, and it can be paired with minimalist furniture to inject personality without overwhelming the space. To style it effectively, keep other accessories simple and let the lamp be the focal point - it’s a statement in its own right. Plus, its compact size makes it easy to position on a bedside table, desk, or shelf for instant visual interest.
