I love the slim, open-frame look of this black string shelf - its simple lines and slatted sides keep a room feeling light while adding a modern, industrial edge. The dark finish works brilliantly against pale walls or in a monochrome scheme, and it pairs well with natural wood and soft textiles to soften the metal frame.
For styling, mix up books (some standing, some laid flat) and slot in small vases or pottery to break up the rectangles. Use baskets on the lower tiers for hidden storage and introduce a trailing plant on the top shelf to counterbalance the rigidity. In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth. By 1989, this entrepreneurial spirit led to the opening of the very first physical store on Billacombe Road, originally named "C.D.S. Superstores". Today, with a whopping 200+ stores across the UK, The Range boasts an impressive selection of over 65,000 products, spreading across 16 diverse departments, all dedicated to enhancing homes and lifestyles.
Chris Dawson, the brain behind The Range, held the CEO position from 1989 to 2017. With a flair for business, Chris's achievements haven't gone unnoticed. He was even ranked fifth in a survey of Britain's Top 100 Entrepreneurs.
