Our Stylist Says

This black floor lamp is a versatile piece that adds an industrial touch to a variety of interiors. I love its minimalistic yet functional design, making it suitable for both modern and eclectic spaces. It works particularly well in living rooms or home offices where you want to create a relaxed, slightly urban vibe. Practical styling tips include using it next to a cosy armchair or beyond a sofa to enhance ambient lighting. You can also complement its utilitarian look by pairing it with other metal accents or darker colour palettes for a coordinated feel. Its straightforward design means it integrates easily without overwhelming a room, making it a great choice for adding both form and function.

About BHS.com

Founded in 1928, BHS is a renowned brand that caters to various tastes and budgets. From modern to classic designs, BHS offers quality items that effortlessly elevate your decor.

Historical Roots

British Home Stores, known as BHS, was founded by a group of U.S. entrepreneurs with the goal of replicating the same success that was seen by Woolworths.

Their first store was on the streets of Brixton and the brand quickly gained popularity for its diverse offerings.

Over time, their range of products expanded to encompass not just clothing and household items, but also furniture, electronics, entertainment, and even beauty products. By the 1960's, BHS already had 94 stores across the nation!

Expansion and Evolution

BHS has always been on the cutting edge of retail trends! In the 1970s and 1980s, when indoor shopping centres were gaining popularity, BHS quickly adapted. Their collaboration with Sainsbury's led to the creation of SavaCentre hypermarkets, which offered a combined retail experience of both general merchandise and groceries.

They didn't limit themselves to the UK either. By 1985, BHS opened its doors in Gibraltar, marking its international debut. Significant milestones like the merger with Habitat and Mothercare in 1986 further shaped its success.
