Description

Designed by Philippe Starck in collaboration with Eugeni Quitllet, Masters is a hybrid of 3 iconic Kartell designs: the Series 7 by Arne Jacobsen; the Tulip armchair by Eero Saarinen and the Eiffel chair by Charles Eames. Masters is roomy and comfortable. Supported on slender legs, the back shapes of the 3 original designs are create by solid lines and voids which flow down and join together along the perimeter. Philippe Starck is a legend of modern design whose repertoire has left permanent mark by producing some of the iconic shapes of the 20th century through his bold reworkings of everyday objects - from interiors to mass-produced consumer goods such as toothbrushes, chairs, and even houses. Please note: not all our ranges are on display in our shops.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a big fan of the Masters chair for its mix of iconic silhouettes, lightweight durability and stackable convenience. Its smooth, moulded plastic shell and slender legs suit everything from a pared-back Scandi dining scheme to a more expressive, colourful workspace. To style it, try pairing a white or pastel version with a natural oak table and a couple of soft-textured cushions for added comfort, or go for a bold hue against a crisp monochrome backdrop to make the chair a visual focal point. Its clean lines also work outdoors on a covered terrace or mixed around a large conference table for a contemporary meeting room.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
