The Owl Planter is part of the Moorland collection. The wild and rugged expanses of moorland habitats have been a rich source of inspiration to poets, playwrights and authors for generations. While they may at first glance appear desolate, in fact they support an array of specialist wildlife, from red deer and mountain hares to birds of prey such as hen harriers and merlins. Often dominated by heather, moorlands are also characterised by low-growing shrubs, grasses and bog-mosses often on damp peaty soils. Bog-mosses or Sphagnum form ‘living carpets’ that absorb vast amounts of carbon, so it is vitally important that we protect these habitats. Through our collection with the Natural History Museum, we want to draw attention to these incredible landscapes, treasured by walkers and wildlife enthusiasts alike. © The Trustees of the Natural History Museum, London 2023. I really like the owl planter as it brings a touch of playful character to any space. Its natural tones and quirky owl design make it versatile, working especially well in living rooms, kitchens, or even kids’ rooms where a friendly visual can add warmth. It pairs nicely with both modern and rustic interiors-consider placing it on a windowsill or a side table to brighten up the room. Practical styling tips include choosing plants with contrasting foliage to make the owl detail pop, or keeping it simple with a lush, green fern or a small succulents for an effortless, natural vibe. Its fun design can be an eye-catching focal point, so keep surrounding accessories minimal for maximum impact.
