Giclee fine art print illustrated by Abi Overland. The Old Fashioned is widely considered the original ‘cocktail’. The story of the OG cocktail is first documented in a New York newspaper in 1806 in response to a readers confusion about the reference to a “cock-tail” in the previous weeks edition. Requests for “Old Fashioned Cocktails” originally referred to a generalised style of cocktail before attaching itself to a particular recipe. It was a generalised term for the Whiskey Cocktail served as early as 1800 but didn’t become synonymous with its name until the 1870s and 1880s where bartenders began to add embellishments the drink that patrons would begin to refer to the traditional and original Whiskey Cocktail as the “Old Fashioned”.
I love how the Old Fashioned print brings a playful yet stylish touch to any space. Its vintage-inspired aesthetic works particularly well in eclectic or mid-century modern interiors, where it can serve as a conversation piece. To style it effectively, consider pairing it with bold, colourful accessories or placing it in a contemporary frame to make it stand out against neutral walls. It's perfect for bar areas, living rooms, or even kitchens where a hint of humour and sophistication is desired. A practical tip would be to hang it at eye level and surround it with complementary artwork or objets d'art to create a curated, personalised display.
