Description

The Iswa counter chair combines a natural woven cane back with tactile tanned goat leather. This comfortable counter-height stool benefits from a soft padded seat complemented by the delicate detailing of the cane back, framed in the warm natural tones of mango wood. When we are designing our counter stools we always consider the view from the back of the chair, as often they are tucked under a kitchen island, and the cane detailing on the reverse of the Iswa chair adds an appealing detail.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a fan of the Iswa counter chair for its mix of rich leather, natural cane and a slim black frame - it feels right at home in Scandi-inspired kitchens, industrial lofts or relaxed boho spaces. For a practical yet polished look, drape a neutral linen throw or slim cushion over the seat and anchor it with a jute runner beneath your island. Pair with black or brass pendant lighting to echo the frame, and offset its warmth against a pale stone or concrete worktop to bring texture without clutter.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
