Avant-garde contemporary design… Created by young French designer Thomas Defour, this undulating mirror borrows from the fundamental joy and freedom of 80s design. Open to aesthetic, formal experimentation, Thomas Defour attaches great importance to the curve and to design, which he explores with new tools for each new project. Thomas Defour created the Magaud mirror with curved tube – a recurring element of industrial design – but giving it a more organic, abstract form. Bent by the designer, the lacquered steel tube follows a curved line which gradually emerges through the use of the tool and reveals a silhouette with generous, random shapes. Each mirror is a unique piece handcrafted in France. Bold and poetic, the Magaud mirror dresses the wall space with originality. Thomas Defour: “This era is very inspiring for our generation. It’s a period during which manufacturers followed the radical ideas of young designers. This resulted in more desirable objects, not just functional ones. It’s this way of producing unusual but rational forms that drives me. ‘’ Halfway between sculpture and craftsmanship, Thomas Defour's technique has developed in a fusion of two methods, visual and applied, based around solar influences. French designer 13. Desserts approaches design from a radical perspective, seeking balance between artistic freedom, mass production and "collectability". Giving pride of place to experimentation, this emerging design label explores new production avenues combining industrial processes and artisanal know-how. Uninhibited by the codes and trends that govern the market, the young guard of French design expresses itself freely, offering a selection of radically unique pieces.
