"The Marseille Lamp, a design icon created by Le Corbusier finally reissued! A genius architect and designer, Le Corbusier created the “Cité Radieuse” in Marseille, a residence built between 1945 and 1952. From its conception, this experimental building tried to materialise a new form of city: a "vertical village" called a "Housing Unit". The Cité Radieuse is today classified as a historical monument. Le Corbusier even designed the lights in the apartments of his “city”. In 1954, he created the "Marseille Lamp", which he would have installed in the model apartments to optimise the lighting. Reissued by Nemo, this large wall lamp (L 166 cm) is a symbol of modernism of the 1950s. Inspired by the industrial lighting of the time, this wall light has a lampshade composed of two asymmetrical cones, containing two light sources. The lighting is both direct (directed downwards) and indirect (directed towards the ceiling). A double switch located on the cable allows separate operation of the two light sources. The Marseille Lamp allows the light to be oriented with great precision thanks to its long swivel arm which has two joints. Thanks to the long arm (L 166 cm), you can illuminate the top of a table as you would with a pendant. This wall light comes with a cable with a plug to connect to the mains. ".
I love the Marseille wall light for its sleek, modernist design and its timeless appeal. It works particularly well in minimalist, industrial, or mid-century inspired interiors, where its clean lines and functional aesthetic can really stand out. Practical styling tips include using it to highlight architectural features or to create a welcoming glow in a reading nook or bedside area. Its adjustable arm adds versatility, making it perfect for task lighting or accenting artwork without overwhelming the space. Pair it with neutral tones or contrasting textures to really let the lamp’s sculptural form shine.
