Inspired by the art book Le Poème de l'Angle Droit, published in 250 numbered copies and collecting Le Corbusier's vision of architecture, the Rug la Main Ouverte represents a seven-color lithograph executed in the historic Parisian printing house Studio Mourlot. The collage depicts the theme of the ''Open Hand'': this key image in the Maestro's thinking is also the symbol of the Indian city of Chandigarh, designed in the 1950s by Le Corbusier himself. La main ouverte" is probably the most important of Le Corbusier's printed works. This image is the symbolic expression of the message that Le Corbusier wanted to convey in all his work, conceived in the simplest, almost modest manner, making his message to humanity both meaningful and powerful. Le Corbusier's philosophy finds here an eminently fraternal sign that passes the time and speaks to all. This "open hand" is a theme dear to the artist's heart, and one that he has addressed in hundreds of drawings, engravings, paintings, sculptures, monuments and tapestries throughout the ages. Le Corbusier: ''Recognize this open hand, the open hand raised as a sign of reconciliation - open to receive, open to give. We must be on the lookout for works of peace. Tools in the hand. The caresses of the hand. The life we taste through the kneading of our hands. The sight of palpation. Full hand I received, full hand I give". The uniqueness of Rug La Main Ouverte also lies in its production technique: each Rug has 72,300 knots per square Metre, individually and exclusively hand-knotted.
