Description

Natural oak and buttery soft leather are the perfect ingredients for quality furniture, so meet our X-Ray armchair. Created for us by Danish design duo Says Who, renowned for compelling details and expert woodworking. Minimalism meets sculptural form: taking cues from Scandi-inspired design, its sleek frame is carved from solid and veneered oak with rounded edges and a subtle curve in the seat. We've added leather upholstery for comfort, but this also gives the chair a tactile contrast and an artisan finish. When today's world places emphasis on flexible living, this chair really comes into its own. It's so versatile that you can style it around the house, from dining room to living room. Take your pick. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a fan of the X-Ray chair for its clean lines and the warm contrast between the oak frame and camel-toned leather. It works just as well in a pared-back Scandi dining area as it does in a contemporary open-plan kitchen, bringing a subtle mid-century nod without overwhelming the scheme. For styling, group a set around a simple oak or glass-topped table and layer in a natural-fibre rug to ground the space. If you want a punchier look, add in black-metal pendant lighting or a charcoal sideboard - the neutral leather and wood will balance richer tones beautifully.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
