Description

The distinctive silhouette of our Aksel dining chair adds a comfortable and modern touch to any dining table. Crafted in Italy to exacting standards, the frame is made from sustainably sourced beech wood with an entire upholstered backrest and seat pad for maximum comfort during extended get-togethers with family and friends. Fabric information: Everest is also a plain boucle fabric consisting of 96% polyester and 4% acrylic. It also has a Martindale rub test of over 60,000 and is specifically designed for use in upholstery. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a big fan of the Aksel chair in Everest Shale because its muted grey upholstery and slim black legs make it incredibly versatile - it slots straight into Scandi-inspired, contemporary or even industrial schemes. The clean lines won’t compete with a statement table, and the soft yet durable fabric pairs well with natural woods or matt metal surfaces. For styling, mix Aksel chairs with an oak or walnut dining table to soften the black legs, and add a low-profile woollen cushion or a sheepskin drape for extra comfort. Position them around a round table to emphasise the backrests’ graphic silhouette and keep legroom clear under the seat.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
