Description

New and exclusive to Heal’s for SS20, the Nova Extending Dining Table is available in a selection of premium European oaks and an American walnut finish, handcrafted completely from solid wood for longevity. When in its smallest formation, the Nova comfortably seats six to eight people, and offering enough width to accommodate both place setting and centrepieces. The double butterfly extension mechanism is easily operated with recessed castors which sit invisibly within the leg. By simply pulling the end apron, the legs glide effortlessly to reveal the integrated solid wood extension panels. Nova can either by partially extended with one leaf, adding 50cm of length, or fully extended to add an additional metre of seating to fit 12 people, making it the perfect centrepiece for celebrations with family and friends. The leaves operate independently of one another, meaning you can choose to have one, both or neither open at any time. The table is handcrafted from solid wood, which is easy to clean and maintain, and boasts black metal accents in the form of the table’s splayed legs which give Nova a modern twist. Add a statement light over the dining table to bring a sense of drama into a dining space. Pair with bench seating or dining chairs to suit your needs.

Our Stylist Says

I’ve been enjoying the Nova extendable dining table for its clean lines and versatile oak top paired with slim black legs - it feels both warm and contemporary. Its two 50 cm leaves mean it sits neatly as a 2 metre table on a day-to-day basis but can stretch to seat eight or more for dinner parties, which is great if you switch between family meals and entertaining. Styling tips: pair it with mixed chairs - try a bench on one side for a laid-back look and upholstered seats at the ends for contrast. Keep the centrepiece low, such as a ceramic bowl or a line of small vases, so guests can chat across the table. I’d layer in natural textures - woven placemats, linen napkins and a runner in muted tones - to echo the oiled oak and add subtle depth without over-cluttering.

About Heal's

Explore from Heal's. Founded in 1810, Heal's are an iconic brand with a history of innovation, and are synonymous with timeless elegance and exceptional design.

A Rich Legacy in Furniture Design

Heal's is a well-known British furniture store with a history that spans over 200 years. It began in 1810 when John Harris Heal and his son started a business for feather products but soon moved into furniture.

By the 1900s, almost everyone in London knew Heal's for its great furniture. Interestingly, they were also among the first to sell electric lights in Britain. During World War II, their main store even helped by making parachutes for soldiers.

Influences and Design Philosophy

A significant part of Heal's story is Sir Ambrose Heal, who worked there for 60 years, from 1893 to 1953. He had a unique idea combine the beautiful designs from the Arts and Crafts Movement with affordable manufacturing.

This meant more people could buy well-designed furniture without breaking the bank. If you visit the Heal's store on Tottenham Court Road in London, you'll see a cool spiral staircase and a statue of a bronze cat, both of which show off the company's unique style.

Modern Expansion and Growth

While Heal's has a long history, they're always looking forward. In 2001, a company named Wittington Investments bought Heal's, helping it to grow and open stores in many cities, including Manchester and Leeds.

They've also started selling products online, aiming to be a modern e-commerce store with physical showrooms. Their main Tottenham Court Road store celebrated 200 years in 2018. Recently, they revamped it, making it even better for shoppers.
