The Adnet coffee table Ø100 cm from Gubi was designed by the French modernist Jacques Adnet in the 1950s. The designer was an innovator when it came to cultivating new concepts and forms, often being the first to develop all sorts of new trends. The French modernist is also quite well-known for combining leather, metal and glass in his designs. This coffee table is a perfect manifestation of such work as it is a striking ensemble of all three materials. The table's timeless design fits well in many different environments, fitting in nicely with neutral tones of interior decor as well as more distinctive styles.
I’m a big fan of the Adnet table for its blend of sleek metalwork and glass - it feels both sturdy and light. The slim black frame and signature ring detail give it a slightly industrial edge without looking too heavy, so it suits everything from a pared-back Scandi living room to a more maximalist urban loft. Styling-wise, keep the surface uncluttered: a couple of coffee-table books, a low vase of foliage and perhaps a sculptural bowl will let the design breathe. Its 100 cm diameter makes it a great centrepiece for easy conversation, and the neutral black finish pairs well with warm woods, tactile textiles and muted neutrals.
