I’ve been using the chapel mirror for its simple Gothic arch and warm brown finish - it immediately lifts a room by introducing height and an architectural focal point. It works particularly well in country‐cottage hallways, vintage‐inspired living rooms or industrial lofts where a touch of soft antiquity balances exposed brick or metal. For styling, hang it centrally above a console table or lean it against a wall on a sideboard, then layer in low vases of foliage or a pair of tapered candlesticks to echo its lines. In smaller spaces, position opposite a window to bounce daylight around, and always ensure the bottom edge sits roughly 10cm above any surface to avoid awkward reflections.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
