Vintage icon. Sammode Studio is reissuing a selection of lights designed in the 1950s by an iconic figure of post-war French design: Pierre Guariche (1926 – 1995). These strikingly modern lamps are pure of shape and very innovative for the post-war period. The original models of Pierre Guariche's lamps are now reaching new heights in auction rooms. Faithful to the original design and incorporating contemporary technologies, these lights, like all Sammode lights, display an exceptional quality of workmanship and French manufacture. Sammode Studio revisits the avant-garde spirit of one of the key lighting designers of the 1950s. Very prolific, in the 1950s, Pierre Guariche designed a multitude of lighting models corresponding to different uses. His lights offer great user comfort and optimal light quality. There’s no apparent light source, thus avoiding glare. Pierre Guariche didn’t study the possibility of expressing a style, but the best way of lighting a room. The technological ambition of Sammode Studio provides each part of the collection with advanced technical devices (swivel arm, cantilever, swivel or tilting jib, articulated spherical arm or counterweight sphere, etc. ). Designed in 1958, the G30 floor lamp was nicknamed the "kite" by Pierre Guariche himself. Its striking silhouette is characterised by its large curved reflector made of perforated white sheet steel that evokes a boat sail, and invites you to escape. The two brushed brass rods form a "V". They are supported on the ground by finned feet.
I love the G30 floor lamp for its sleek, minimalist silhouette that combines mid-century charm with a modern edge. Its white and gold colour palette makes it versatile enough to work in various interiors, from contemporary living rooms to chic bedrooms or even stylish offices. When styling, consider pairing it with either bold colour accents for contrast or neutral tones for a cohesive look. Its slim profile is perfect for lighting corners without taking up much space, and the adjustable or pointed elements add a functional, sculptural quality. To really make it stand out, place it alongside textured materials like plush fabrics or natural woods for a layered, sophisticated aesthetic.
