The Frequency Hurricane lantern from Georg Jensen was designed by the American designer Kelly Wearstler. Wearstler drew on the striking similarities between Californian and Scandinavian natural scenery as a heavy source of inspiration, focussing especially on portraying the delicate relationship between light and water. The wave-shaped detailing of the lantern bowl pushes the stainless steel material to its utmost limits, a feat of tremendous craftsmanship. Able to withstand temperatures as low as 18 degrees Celsius below zero, it can be placed almost anywhere you can think of: on the balcony, by the doorway, or in nearly any outside space. The Frequency Hurricane lantern is made of mouth-blown glass, meaning that small variations in thickness can occur in the design.
I love this hurricane lantern for its sleek, contemporary silhouette and versatile design. It works well in minimalist interiors, adding a subtle touch of elegance, but can also complement more eclectic styles when paired with textured or coloured candles. The clear glass and geometric base make it a great choice for creating cosy, ambient lighting-perfect on a dining table, console, or outdoor setting. For styling tips, try grouping a few in different sizes on a coffee table or sideboard, or layer it alongside other decorative objects for a curated look. It’s particularly effective with pillar candles, but can also be used with scented or coloured candles to enhance the mood of the space.
