I’m a fan of this dark-oak shoe cabinet because its slatted doors give a sleek, ventilated look without shouting “storage unit”. The rich Wenge finish works well in contemporary, industrial or Scandi-inspired hallways and mudrooms, and its compact footprint means you can tuck it under a console mirror or beside a coat rack.
To style it, keep the top clear except for a small plant or a slim catch-all tray for keys and sunglasses. Inside, use shallow baskets or clear boxes to organise seasonal footwear, and consider mounting a row of hooks above for umbrellas or dog leads. In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth. By 1989, this entrepreneurial spirit led to the opening of the very first physical store on Billacombe Road, originally named "C.D.S. Superstores". However, in the early '90s, a rebranding took place, introducing "The Range" to the world.
Today, with a whopping 200+ stores across the UK, The Range boasts an impressive selection of over 65,000 products, spreading across 16 diverse departments, all dedicated to enhancing homes and lifestyles.
Chris Dawson, the brain behind The Range, held the CEO position from 1989 to 2017. With a flair for business, Chris's achievements haven't gone unnoticed. He was even ranked fifth in a survey of Britain's Top 100 Entrepreneurs.
Under his leadership, The Range has not only thrived locally but has also hinted at European expansion dreams, envisioning a staggering 1,000 stores across the continent.
