Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the Haus Lange in 1927, the D42 Armchair in a natural cane finish is a true design icon that is crafted today by esteemed manufacturer Tecta and is exclusively available at The Conran Shop in the UK. Expertly crafted in Germany from nickel-plated tubular steel and accented with a natural cane woven seat, the chair's frame is cleverly cantilevered for a contemporary aesthetic. The fluid and singular lines of its tubular steel frame create a contemporary structure for the elegant woven cane seat, a revolutionary and never-before-seen shape at its time of conception in the 1920s. Championing a 'less is more' approach to design, German-American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modernist architecture. The third and final director of the Bauhaus, he has gone down in history as one of the most important contributors to modern design.
