The aim of the Danish studio Space Copenhagen was to design a lamp with an industrial look that’s also elegant and poetic. The Copenhagen floor lamp takes its inspiration from the old marine lanterns that adorned boats in the 19th century. The opalescent glass lampshade reminds us of gaslights, those old street lamps that lit up the streets of Copenhagen. With its archetypal shape, this light forms part of our collective memory. The bronze-effect brass base and matt finish of the colours are extremely elegant. The Copenhagen floor lamp is also notable for the quality of its direct and indirect lighting (the light escaping through the top and bottom of the lampshade).
I love this floor lamp for its clean, modern silhouette and versatile colour palette. Its understated white and brown tones with a touch of metal make it an ideal piece for minimalist and contemporary interiors, but it can also add a subtle touch of sophistication to Scandi-inspired schemes. The tall, slender design works well in living rooms or reading nooks, where it provides focused light without overwhelming the space. Practical styling tips include placing it beside a neutral sofa or armchair to create a cosy reading corner, or pairing it with textured textiles for added warmth. Its understated elegance means it blends seamlessly with various colour schemes and furniture styles, making it a flexible choice for many interiors.
