The voluptuous curves on this design create an intrinsically eye-catching chair. The inherent springiness in the bent plies of the seat and back and the sculpted recessed shape, as well as the moulded wing shaped back provide a comfortable sit. The Butterfly chair seat can be selected in our Special Light lacquer finish, or in a choice of our painted finishes, which protects the timber as well as fitting in with your style and decor. A feature of this dining chair is the classic Windsor wedge joint, where the leg of the chair goes right through the seat : a wedge is then inserted into a cut in the leg, forming a remarkably strong joint. Sanded off flush with the seat, the joint then provides a beautiful design element. First launched in 1958 the Butterfly chair is as fresh today. With its distinctive curved bent plies, reminiscent of the profile of a butterfly's wings, the butterfly chair is one of ercol's most iconic designs.
This reissue butterfly chair is a fantastic addition to both modern and vintage-inspired interiors, thanks to its clean lines and timeless wood finish. I love how its natural wood tone pairs effortlessly with neutral palettes, but it can also add warmth to more colourful schemes. Its mid-century design works well in dining rooms, home offices, or even as occasional seating in living spaces. For styling tips, consider combining it with other wooden or matte black accessories to enhance its understated elegance, or add a pop of colour through cushions or upholstered seats. Practical and versatile, it’s perfect for creating a comfortable, stylish corner that honours classic design while fitting seamlessly into contemporary settings.
