A Scandinavian design icon. Representative of the modernist period, the Birdy lamp collection was designed in 1952 by Norwegian Birger Dahl, considered one of Scandinavia's greatest post-war interior designers. The Birdy collection has been produced and marketed by the Oslo Norwegian electricity company for many years. In 1954, the Birdy table lamp, better known as the S-30016, was awarded the prestigious gold medal at the Milan Triennale. In 2013, Northern decided to reissue this great classic, scrupulously remaining true to the original design and the great functionality that made the collection such a success. Very mobile, this table lamp lets you direct the light with precision with its tilting arm and adjustable lampshade. The classic, chic style of this metal lamp is timeless.
I love this reissue for its clean, minimalist silhouette and nostalgic nod to mid-century design. The Birdy Table Lamp works beautifully in contemporary, Scandinavian, or even industrial interiors, adding a subtle vintage touch without feeling dated. Practical tips include placing it on a desk or bedside table where its adjustable arm can provide focused task lighting, and pairing it with neutral or matte finishes to let its sleek black form stand out. It's also versatile enough to serve as an accent piece in living spaces or home offices, bringing functional style and a hint of retro charm.
