The Bestlite BL3 S Floor lamp from Gubi is real design classic. The original was designed by Robert Dudley Best in the 1930s and has been in continuous production ever since. The lamp design was inspired by the Bauhaus era – a style that to this day inspires architects, artists and designers alike. The Bestlite lamp is found in permanent collections at both the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London. It is safe to say that the Bestlite is iconic not only in Scandinavian design, but globally. The lamp arm can be tilted 90 degrees, both horizontally and vertically and the lamp shade can be rotated 360 degrees – guaranteed perfect lighting for your reading nook.
I love this floor lamp for its elegant brass finish combined with the subtle touch of bone china, adding a refined yet contemporary feel. It works particularly well in minimalist or mid-century inspired interiors, where its clean lines and sophisticated materials can shine. When styling, consider placing it next to a modern sofa or a reading nook to create a functional statement piece. Practical tips include using a warm white bulb to highlight the brass’s warm tones and pairing it with soft furnishings in neutral shades to let the lamp’s design stand out. Its timeless appeal makes it versatile, but it truly excels in spaces that balance classic and modern elements.
