Description
Designed by legendary Finnish designer Alvar Aalto for Artek in 1945, Bench 153. A represents the pinnacle of functionalist furniture design, characterised by its revolutionary curved L-leg. Available in natural, black lacquered and white lacquered birch, this versatile bench can be used for a multitude of purposes, including as a seat, shelving display or for storage. Crafted in Finland from solid Finnish birch wood, the airy seat rests on Aalto's signature L-legs. Created by bending a piece of birch to a curved 90° angle, the L-leg can be fastened directly to the seat, eliminating the need for complicated framework or support and creating Aalto's signature streamlined and simple aesthetic. Alvar Aalto was one of the founding members of Finnish manufacturer, Artek, and embraced strong individuality with focus on designing predominantly for humanity, creating functional and dynamic pieces for public and personal spaces alike. Instantly recognisable as a classic Alvar Aalto design, this bench would make a stylish addition to any hallway, bedroom or dressing room.
