"Coming straight from a watercolour palette, Alu chairs sport a blend of joyous intensity, remarkable restraint, poetry and geometry. Known as Muller Van Severen, the Flemish design duo Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen work at the intersection of art and design. They are among the most prominent creators of the moment. From galleries to museums, not to mention collectors, design enthusiasts and design houses, everyone loves their minimalist, colourful furniture, timeless and joyful. In less than a decade, Muller Van Severen has become a key player in design, to the point of winning numerous awards and increasing collaborations with prestigious museums (Pompidou Centre, Vitra museum, etc. ). Suitable for indoor and outdoor use and ultra-light, this aluminium chair was originally designed to furnish the Bahrain pavilion by architect Anne Holtrop at the Universal Exhibition 2015 in Milan. Like all furniture by Muller Van Severen, the Alu chair combines rigorous, strict lines with bright, daring colour combinations. The natural aluminium structure is combined with coloured aluminium seats and backrests with an ultra-shiny finish, available in a very rich chromatic palette. The creative duo Muller Van Severen see colour as a material. Fien Muller explains: “The choice of colours was difficult. For the first version, we used polyethylene, a material produced in a limited number of colours. This new version is painted with a powder coating, which means we could choose from an endless number of colours. " In the end, Muller Van Severen chose sixteen colour combinations. Hannes explains: “This multiplicity of colours gives a fun aspect to the Alu chair. You can actually create a landscape of colours. The colours of the chair really determine the atmosphere of the space. You can create a very playful or rather serious environment. ” Like a painter composing a canvas, have fun matching and combining colours. Available in sixteen different combinations of bright or pastel colours, the Alu chair offers a palette of shades to adapt to any environment or setting. Exuberance or sobriety, you can choose to coordinate or not the colours of the backrest and seat, mixing the shades to create your own ‘landscape of colours’. ”.
