Description

Jasper Morrison is one of the most successful industrial designers of recent decades. A champion of the "super-normal", he advocates sober, useful, responsible design. His creations can be found in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and other collections of eminent museums around the world. Jasper Morrison's don't stand out with remarkably new designs, but rather embody the updating and perfection of a familiar typology. This set of glass bottles was designed by Jasper Morrison in 1988 for the Berlin exhibition "Some New Items for the Home". His project was to create a room layout with objects that create "an everyday ambiance". Morrison explains: "It was a response to Ettore Sottsass' Memphis movement, which was getting a lot of press at the time but which seemed to completely toss aside the functional aspects of daily life. The intention was thus to designed a certain number of objects which, when assembled, would form or imply a room. In this spirit, objects shouldn't have to battle it out for attention, appearing embarrassed by their excessive design, but should have a sort of modest nature without pretensions which we'd expect from objects found in "real" rooms. Making this by using the most elementary materials in the most obvious way possible, and by letting the shapes be dictated by them. The shapes are therefore as simple as the materials. Objects like the three bottles were there to emphasise this evidence, and to highlight the fact that there's a lot to be said for everyday utensils. ". This set includes three different sized boxes: a stocky, large-based water bottle, a medium-height and slender bottle for white wine, and a slightly shorter and wider bottle for red wine. He was right, as Morrison explained: "I wanted to hand-blow the three bottles, but as I didn't have any glass-blowers working in Berlin at the time, I found that the only way to make them was to take ordinary wine bottles and manipulate them, to rework them, which, ultimately, was much more interesting, it screamed "look how beautiful an ordinary bottle can be - better than things that are "designed". The bottles were then released to production by Cappellini in 1992. The bodies are made from moulded glass. The necks and edges and hand-shaped by master glass-blowers. These bottles can be used as carafes, vases or even as decorative objects in their own right.

Our Stylist Says

I love this set of three green vases for their simple yet striking silhouette, which makes them versatile for various interior styles. They work particularly well in contemporary or minimalist spaces, where their colour adds a pop of freshness without overwhelming. These bottles are perfect for displaying small bouquets or greenery, and their different sizes offer flexibility-placing them together as a trio creates a balanced focal point, while using them separately can highlight different corners or tabletops. Practical styling tips include pairing them with neutral backgrounds to really make the green pop, or layering them with other glassware for an eclectic look. They bring a subtle touch of colour and shape that can elevate everyday interiors or complement more curated displays.
