The Zen rug is based on a characteristic conceptual language. With this rug, Danish designer Emily Broom wanted to transform her interior into a refuge. The rug is therefore inspired by Japanese "Zen" gardens, which invite concentration and relaxation and provide a very particular Zen feeling of well-being. This is precisely the purpose of the Zen rug: with its simple shapes and quality, durable materials, it brings a natural, simple touch to your decor. Emily Broom, the creator behind Zen, won the Bolia Design Awards 2020 for her Zen rugs. All the rugs are handmade. Their sizes can therefore vary. Zen rugs come in different shapes and sizes. Danish designer Emily Broom: “I attach great importance to simple geometry, quality materials, craftsmanship and consistency. Touch, shape and composition are key factors throughout the design process. I like to get my hands dirty to understand and experience design as it evolves. I’m convinced that this frees up my designs, makes them more intuitive and, I hope, richer. My work aims to be beautiful, pleasant to the touch and easy to understand. ” All Bolia rugs are handcrafted and Care & Fair-certified, which guarantees good working and living conditions for workers and their families.
I love this round jute rug for its simple yet sculptural design, which adds subtle texture and warmth to both contemporary and more relaxed interiors. Its neutral beige tone makes it versatile, ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, or even dining areas where you want to create a calm, earthy feel. I’d suggest pairing it with natural materials like wood or wicker to emphasise its organic aesthetic. When styling, consider layering with a larger, plain rug underneath for added dimension, especially in bigger spaces. It’s also practical for adding softness and comfort without overpowering a clean-lined colour scheme or minimalist decor.
