Description
The ''X'' Coffee table was designed in 1959 by Peter Hvidt (1916-1986) and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907-1993): these mid-20th-century Danish design pioneers took an avant-garde approach to industrialized production. Today, their work is exhibited at MoMA, the National Gallery in Melbourne and the Design Museum in Copenhagen. The X coffee table is the fruit of years of experience and complicity between the two designers, who were enamored of the traditional Danish craft techniques they learned at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts. Originally conceived in 1959 and resurrected from family archives, the X table draws its unique design from ancient Egyptian folding chairs. Originally conceived as a companion piece to the X chair, the X table takes up its basic principles, with a sloping frame and an ingenious use of Wood.
