The "X" lounge chair imposes itself as a must-have piece of Danish design. It was designed in 1959 by Peter Hvidt (1916-1986) and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907-1993): these pioneers of Danish design from the middle of the 20th century had an avant-gardist approach to industrialised production. Now, their work is exhibited in MoMA, in the National Gallery of Melbourne and in the Design Museum of Copenhagen. The "X" armchair is the result of several years of experience and complicity between the two designers, lovers of artisan and traditional Danish techniques which they learned at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Trades. After having spent years experimenting with the design of a laminated wooden frame, inspired by old-fashioned wooden tennis rackets, the designer duo of Danish designers Hvidt & Mølgaard launched "X" in 1959, a lounge chair with a strong lean towards sober and distinctive aesthetics. This armchair pairs an oak structure with walnut inserts and a natural rattan seat.
