Created using a mix of materials, from crayon to gouache and acrylic on canvas, to reimagine the oscillations and iridescence of feathers. Similar to a smaller piece, 'Black Wing', also created by Kevin Jackson, this artwork uses mixed materials to create the artist's abstract interpretation of the sound of flapping wings as a bird takes flight. About the artist A Chelsea School of Art alumni, Kevin Jackson is based in London, with some of his work displayed in the city's prestigious British Museum. The artist often creates mixed-media abstract pieces as a way to analyse the place humans have in an increasingly virtual world.
I love this piece because of its bold, graphic style and the way it adds movement to a space. 'Wing Beats' works particularly well in modern or minimalist interiors, where it can serve as a striking focal point on a pared-back wall. To style effectively, consider pairing it with neutral tones or simple furnishings to let the artwork stand out. It also pairs nicely with metallics or wooden accents for a touch of warmth and texture. Practical tip: hang it at eye level and keep surrounding decor understated, so the artwork remains the star of the show.
