The Wiltons purple velvet armchair is a magnificent beast, with generous proportions and soft, pillowy back cushions. Made in Italy, the sumptuous sofa has an extra-deep seat with classic T-shaped, feather-topped foam cushions, feather- and fibre-filled back cushions, padded box arms and oak-stained legs. Exclusive to Habitat, Wiltons is made to order and available in a variety of configurations, all with removable covers for cleaning, in 4 fabrics and a wide choice of colours. The Birth of Habitat
In 1964, Sir Terence Conran founded Habitat in London, aiming to bring a fresh European touch to UK home decor.
The first store, located on Fulham Road in Chelsea, became the blueprint for all Habitat stores to come. The store stood out with its distinct design, and was famously known for selling affordable pasta storage jars just as the pasta market began booming in the UK.
Rapid Expansion & Legacy
Habitat grew swiftly in the UK during the 1960s and even crossed borders with its first international store in Paris in 1973.
The brand's journey through the decades saw various mergers and acquisitions, including its integration with Sainsbury's Group in 2017.
Habitat's innovation extended beyond products; they even launched a mail-order system in 1966 and initiated the concept of flat-pack furniture in 1971.
Celebrating its rich history, the brand marked its 50th anniversary in 2014 by collaborating with past designers and commissioning a special logo.
