Description
This 19th century fruitwood table was owned by my cousin. She used it to serve the most delicious lunches from, in her dining room in the county of Wiltshire. Named Marquette as the room had a rather French feel, "it was a bit like tripping over Paris in the country" and I still have great feelings of joy when I look at this interpretation of a favourite piece. Marble topped practicality makes Marquette ideal for everyday purposes.

I’m a fan of this Marquette console for its neat blend of classic curves and a muted grey-fruitwood finish - it slots easily into both traditional and more pared-back, contemporary hallways. The slender legs keep it feeling light, so it won’t overwhelm a narrow entrance or the space behind a sofa.
For styling, try a round mirror hung just above to echo the tabletop’s soft tones, then layer in a sculptural lamp on one side and a small stack of coffee-table books or a ceramic bowl on the other. A single vase of foliage or flowering stems will introduce texture without clutter, and a slim tray can corral keys or small accessories for real-life practicality.
