Filled with a nostalgic warmth, this true, deep red was taken from the Morris & Co. logbook entry for the 1879 Sunflower design. Ford Madox Brown, a founding partner of Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. who designed furniture and stained glass, gives his name to this paint colour. Highly opaque and low sheen, the eggshell paint finish offers a fresh, enduring quality. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. All surfaces to be painted should be clean, dry and free from loose and flaking material including dirt and grease. Prime base surfaces with an appropriate primer. Rub down previously glossed painted surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly. Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Special precautions should be taken during preparation of pre-1960’s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead. Prime base surfaces with an appropriate primer. Stir well before use and apply by brush or roller. Apply 2 coats
I love this egg-shell paint for its subtle finish that adds a sophisticated touch to interiors. It’s particularly effective in spaces where you want a soft, muted colour that still feels polished. While primarily used on walls, it pairs beautifully with textured or patterned rugs like the Madder2.5, creating a cosy yet refined atmosphere. Practical styling tips include keeping the colour palette understated in the rest of the room to let the rich hue of the paint stand out, and layering with mixed textiles and natural materials to add depth. Its durable, washable finish makes it ideal for high-traffic areas, ensuring style and practicality go hand in hand.
