William Morris was remembered being “up to the elbow” in indigo, as he was trialling the reintroduction of the traditional indigo-discharge printing method at Merton Abbey. Inky Fingers harks back to this moment, where the founder of Morris & Co. was covered in the deeply rich blue colour. Highly opaque and low sheen, the eggshell paint finish offers a fresh, enduring quality. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. All surfaces to be painted should be clean, dry and free from loose and flaking material including dirt and grease. Prime base surfaces with an appropriate primer. Rub down previously glossed painted surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly. Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Special precautions should be taken during preparation of pre-1960’s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead. Prime base surfaces with an appropriate primer. Stir well before use and apply by brush or roller. App
I love this eggshell paint for its smooth, subtle sheen that adds a touch of sophistication to any space. It works especially well in living rooms or bedrooms where a refined, contemporary look is desired. The colour Inky Fingers1 gives a deep, muted tone that pairs beautifully with warm woods, brass accents, and soft textiles. For styling tips, consider balancing this rich hue with lighter cushions or throws to prevent the room from feeling too heavy. It’s versatile enough to also serve as a striking backdrop for statement artwork or colourful accessories, making it quite a practical choice for versatile living spaces.
