La collection VL Studio est dérivée d’un modèle de lampe conçu par l’architecte Vilhelm Lauritzen pour Radiohuset, l’ancienne Maison de la radio de Copenhague, dans les années 1940. Le nom ‘’ Studio’’ a été choisi parce que certaines de ces lampes faisaient office d’indicateur pour les sessions d’enregistrement, avec une lampe rouge et une verte montées à l’extérieur du studio. Vilhelm Lauritzen était l’architecte de Radiohuset. Conçu dans un style fonctionnaliste, l’ouvrage a été inauguré en 1945. Comme la plupart des bâtiments de Vilhelm Lauritzen, Radiohuset constituait une œuvre totale, c’est-à-dire qu’il concevait le bâtiment dans ses moindres détails, y compris la décoration. Au cours du développement de Radiohuset, Vilhelm Lauritzen a conçu une vaste gamme de lampes en étroite collaboration avec Louis Poulsen. Louis Poulsen s’est chargé de la production de ces lampes après leur création dans les années 1940. Mais elles ont été progressivement retirées du catalogue avant de faire leur grand retour.
