A recurring theme of Charles and Ray Eames designs, bent wire steel offered endless new possibilities to designers of the 1950s. A mid-century classic, the LTR a double chromed base with laminate wood top to create a side table that works well within both domestic and commercial settings.
I often reach for the Vitra occasional table (the walnut-edged top on its dark wire base) when I need a piece that feels both sculptural and unfussy. Its clean lines and lightweight profile suit Scandi, mid-century or industrial schemes equally well, slipping effortlessly beside a sofa or in a reading nook. For styling, I’ll layer a small stack of art books, a textured ceramic vase and a low-slung candle to balance the graphic base. Because it’s quite open underneath, you can even tuck a neat storage basket or slim magazine rack below without blocking the table’s form.
