A recurring theme of Charles and Ray Eames designs, bent wire steel offered endless new possibilities to designers of the 1950s. A mid-century classic, the LTR a double chromed base with laminate wood top to create a side table that works well within both domestic and commercial settings.

I’ve been using the Vitra marble-top side table for its clean lines and sturdy dark base - it’s equally at home in a minimalist living room or a mid-century scheme. The slender wire frame keeps the floor visible, so it works well in smaller spaces or alongside a low-slung sofa without feeling bulky.
Styling tip: keep the tabletop clear apart from one or two key pieces - a sculptural vase, a small plant or a stack of coffee-table books. If you need extra surface area, lean a slim tray across a corner to corral remotes or candles. The mix of marble and metal also responds nicely to warmer woods and soft textiles, so layer in a sheepskin or wool throw nearby for contrast.
