The Fiberglass Chairs were launched on the market in 1950, introducing a new furniture typology that has since become widespread: the multifunctional chair whose shell can be combined with a variety of bases to serve different purposes. In response to the enormous popularity of the chair, the choice of bases and colours was subsequently expanded. Over the course of the following decade, the Fiberglass Chairs became one of the best known furniture designs of the twentieth century.

I always reach for the Eames chair in elephant-hide grey when I need a piece that’s both timeless and practical. Its clean lines and neutral shell work equally well in a Scandi-inspired living room, a pared-back home office or even a pared-down retro dining setup. To style it, pair it with a pale timber table or desk to echo the ash-honey legs, and add a simple wool cushion in a contrasting hue for comfort. If you’ve got a cluster of them around a round table, the overall look stays light and unfussy while still feeling pulled together.

Heal's is a well-known British furniture store with a history that spans over 200 years. It began in 1810 when John Harris Heal and his son started a business for feather products but soon moved into furniture.
