Visual artist and textile designer, Maija Isola (1927 - 2001) is a Finnish textile designer who has created more than 500 patterns, including the famous Unikko. Her bold, colourful designs made furniture and fashion company Marimekko famous in the 1960s. The Viitta (lighthouse) pattern is one of her geometric designs from the 1960s, a re-exploration of the constructivist movement that was rising on the Finnish art scene at the time. Viitta belongs to Maija’s geometric patterns of the 1960s, which bear similarities to the constructivist movement that gained popularity in Finnish art during the same decade, as well as minimalism and other geometric trends. Viitta displays the characteristic strict abstraction and light optical colour surfaces of the art movement. Cheerful, chic and graphic, the collection of Marimekko cushion covers brightens up your interior! Their original patterns blend together wonderfully. Created in 1951, Marimekko is a state of mind, a way of life based on creativity, freedom of spirit and inventiveness. Its notoriety dates back to 1960, the year in which Jackie Kennedy made several public appearances in dresses designed by Marimekko. The brand went on to enjoy enormous success, which continues today with a range of clothing and decorative accessories in vibrant colours, for a house full of inspiration! PLEASE NOTE:Cushion cover sold on its own: the filling is sold separately.
