Description
A psychedelic interpretation of the Italian post-modernist aesthetic, the Swirl collection has a certain pop feel about it. Adorned with bold patterns, the geometric shapes are stacked to create multi-dimensional and functional sculptures. Tom Dixon pursues his artistic research inspired by post-consumer processes, the waste phenomenon and its management, and the recycling practices of used materials. The Swirl collection is made up of a material that imitates marble, made from industrial waste : recycled marble powder from sawmills. This powder is mixed with coloured pigments and resin. The material is then cut and turned by hand. The marble pattern provides superb mineral decoration. Because of the pigmentation process, each piece has a unique pattern. The Swirl vases are inspired by Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. Anchored to a heavy base, the cylindrical vases wonderfully showcase flowers and foliage.
