Vase Nuage Abstrait Medium metal / Bouroullec, 2016 - Limited edition - Vitra

The shape of the Nuage vases was first seen in the work of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec in 2002. The motif evokes a cloud and was originally produced as a plastic shelf module that can be assembled in groups or large configurations. Eight tube-shaped holes are drilled into the flat surfaces of the modular element, defining the outer contours of the shape. Over the years, the Bouroullec brothers have made variations to the shape, which they have repeatedly integrated into their graphic work. To create the Nuage vase, the designers made the motif from extruded aluminium shapes of different lengths. The holes are then placed vertically in the base form, dividing the vase into eight individual tubes that can be used for beautiful flower and herb arrangements. The undulating surfaces, which have an anodised finish, create a captivating interplay between light and shadow. Thanks to their precise external contours, the vases can be put together to create real "cloud formations". The multiple tubes allow each flower to be highlighted. Thus arranged, a bouquet takes on a graceful lightness, almost surreal. The abstract Cloud limited edition is made using a process in which each vase is immersed in a series of coloured anodised solutions for a set amount of time. This version reflects Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec’s abstract interpretation of design, giving each vase the quality of a sculpture with a unique colour gradient. The abstract Cloud is limited to 999 pieces. Since the early 2000s, the work of brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec has emerged as one of the most representative of the dynamism of French design. Working as a pair since 1998, the two brothers now design for numerous industrialists, while pursuing experimental research work. PLEASE NOTE.
