For styling, I’d anchor it on a low-pile rug that picks up one of the timber’s accent hues, keep one side clear for a neat stack of books on the lower shelf, then group a simple tray, a sculptural vase and a small plant on top to balance function with visual interest.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
