A link between past and present. This lamp was designed to equip the new extension of the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar. The architects' practice in charge of this extension, Herzog & de Meuron, managed to combine a resolutely modern building with an ancient medieval convent. The Unterlinden lamp is one part of this renovation: it combines the ancient style with cutting edge technology. The metal-work on this vintage industrial lampshade is superb. Aged brass appears to have the patina of time. The surface of the lampshade is lined with asymmetric stripes in relief. The slight irregularity in the texture makes it look hand made. The raw metal is worked to create a radical style reminiscent of the charm and simplicity of yesteryear's objects. This lamp houses cutting edge technology. The high performance LED source is filtered by a high optical efficiency polymer lens, designed to concentrate the beam of light. Light emission is optimal: the light is functional. The position of the lampshade has been studied to ensure excellent lighting of work space without blinding the user.
The Unterlinden LED table lamp is a versatile piece that combines modern functionality with a classic aged metal finish, making it an excellent addition to both contemporary and traditional interiors. I love how its sleek yet understated design can add a subtle touch of sophistication to a bedside or reading corner. Its height and adjustable head make it practical for task lighting, while the mixed metal tones lend a tactile richness that pairs well with natural textures such as wood, linen, or leather. For styling tips, consider placing it on a minimalist side table in a living room or using it to accentuate a vintage-inspired desk setup - it’s a great way to introduce a statement piece that works seamlessly with various colour schemes and decor styles.
