Description
Maija Isola's iconic Unikko floral pattern is the hallmark of Marimekko. It was designed in 1964, just after the founder of the Marimekko brand, Armi Ratia, had publicly proclaimed that she was banning floral motifs as outdated. Maija Isola challenged her by designing a series of floral motifs whose style was so innovative and fresh that Armi changed her mind. Ironically, the Unikko pattern became the brand's emblem.
