In 2008, British design duo Edward Baber and Jay Osgerby were commissioned to develop a furniture concept for London's Royal Society of Arts Academy. They realized that no existing chair was suitable for 21st-century learning: almost all seating for learning was based on outdated pedagogical lines - on transmitting knowledge to static pupils, who were expected to learn by sitting still. Barber and Osgerby drew up a list of criteria that a modern seat for young students should meet: indestructible, lightweight, easy to manufacture, silent, stackable, colorful and fully recyclable. And it must allow movement. These complex requirements call for a revolutionary seat - for an entirely new seating position.
